Burnham Peles Obituary
Burnham Peles

Burnham "Bernie" John Peles passed away quietly and peacefully on September 8, 2018, in his home at Genesis Village, where he became family and made many friends with residents and staff. He was 101.

Born October 21, 1916, in Monroe, MI, to parents Lucia and Otto Peles, he grew up and attended school there. Bernie enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, serving in the China-Burma-India campaign during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Following the war, he worked as a technician for Continental Aviation in Detroit until the company became Teledyne Corp. and he moved to Toledo finishing his career, retiring in 1974.

Bernie was a good-hearted man with great wit and humor and always pleasant to others offering cheerful antidotes about life. He was an avid reader of the Bible and health-related books.

Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings, Sidney, Lucia, Adolph, Lester, Adelaide, Victor; and his wife, Doris Peles. He is survived by his step-son, Robert (Nancy) Bigelow; grandchildren, Steven and Emily.

A memorial will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 3:00 p.m. at Genesis Village, 2429 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo. Burial services will be private.

A special thank you to Promedica in-house; and the staff of Genesis Village for expert care and comfort; enriching his time there. Thanks to Allison, Diana, Tasha, Renee, Mercedes, Jessica, Tim and to so many others who touched his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any tributes be made to Promedica Hospice. Arrangements provided by Newcomer Funeral Home. To leave a special message for Burnham's family, please visit:
