Charlie Pearl Cobb 89, passed away November 8, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Charlie was born January 26, 1923, in Manchester, Georgia to parents Willie Bell and Charley Troy. Charlie attended Scott High school and Owens Community College earning an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development. She worked as a teacher in the Head Start Program for many years, retiring due to disability.
Charlie was an active member of Phillips Temple CME Church for over 60 years. She served in many capacities, from the kitchen committee to church clerk. Charlie received numerous church and community awards including "Mother of the Year" in 2006, by the Toledo Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her parent;, her husband, Isaac, and her brother, J. Frank Troy. She is survived by three daughters, Doris (Jesse) Allen of Holland, Ohio, Carolyn Knolly-Coleman and Ireatha (Michael) Hollie both of Toledo; brothers, Rev. Leon (Bernice) Troy, Columbus, Ohio and Emery Troy of Blackwood, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Brenda Turner, Chicago, IL; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great--grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Visitation will be Friday 5 - 8 p.m. Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel, Family Hour Saturday 10 a.m. followed by funeral services 11 a.m. Phillips Temple CME Church, Rev. Darvin Adams, officiant, Rev. Leon L. Troy Sr. Pastor Emeritus, Second Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio will deliver the eulogy, interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Phillips Temple CME Church.
