Dale Conrad Horst Obituary
Dale Conrad Horst

October 13, 1936 - July 29, 2018

Dale Conrad Horst, 81, passed from this life into eternity to be with his Savior on July 29, 2018, at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold, OH.

Dale, the middle son of Michael and Elva (Conrad) Horst, was born October 13, 1936 in Weilersville, OH. He attended all 12 grades at Smithville, where he lettered in track and baseball. He sang in the school chorus and choirs, and played different instruments in the school band. Dale also attended Truck Driving School in Middletown.

He farmed for Ray and Steve Rupp for over 36 years. Then he started driving truck, hauling steel and landscaping stones, and rock to landscaping companies, ending his career hauling grain for Darwin Beck "Ridgeville Elevator", retiring six years ago.

He spent two years in Voluntary Service at Akron, PA at Mennonite Central Committee warehouse, hauling clothing and canned meat to ships to be shipped to other countries.

Dale and Bonnie were very involved in the mentoring program through Four County Vocational School. It was very important to help the students. They loved them all, getting very close to each one of them.

Birds and flowers were their passion, also working on antique tractors and plows.

Dale served on many boards such as the Board of MRDD, Church boards, and was with the Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission for 40-some years only missing four or five meetings in those many years. His last job was President of the Residents Group at Fairlawn Haven. He taught many Sunday School classes.

He truly was a man of God and loved the Lord and life to the fullest even through the tough times in life.

Dale married the love of his life, Bonnie on April 6, 1996. He leaves behind his loving wife; six children and step-daughter, Gene Horst of Toledo, Duane Horst of Holland, Larry (Barb) Horst of Archbold, Connie Horst (deceased), Vonda Horst of Goshen, IN, Janna (Jeramie) Cline of Archbold and Trisha Zuercher of Archbold; grandchildren, Michael Horst, Dan Horst, and Emily Horst all of Sylvania, Kenny (Christa) Horst of Waterville, Alicia (Abram) Johnston of Archbold, Grant Horst of Goshen, IN, Quinn Cline and Jace Cline both of Archbold; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jackson and Jamison Horst all of Waterville, and Abraham Johnston of Archbold; brothers, George (Beulah) Horst of Goshen, IN and Phil (Sue) Horst of Granville; nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; grandparents; uncles and aunts.

Friends may call at the Fayette Church of the Nazarene from 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. It was Dale's wish to be an anatomical donor at the University of Toledo Medical School. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.
