Gerald V.

Gerald Vincent DePrisco, 85, a life long resident of Toledo, went home to be with the Lord, April 16, 2013. Coming from a musical family, it all began at the V. DePrisco Music Store, owned by his parents Vincent and Amelia. Working together successfully as a family also were his brothers Albert, Adolph, Victor, and sister Yolanda. Gerald grew up in South Toledo, attended O.L.P.H Grade School, and was a Central Catholic High School graduate from 1945. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from The University of Toledo and a Masters degree in Music from Wayne State University.

Affectionally known as "Mr. D", Gerald was Chairman of the Music Department at Central Catholic for over 20 years which included directing the Marching Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, and Glee Club.

During those 20 years, Central Catholic became highly acclaimed for the success of its students. Gerald's ability to teach and inspire superior performances from them is still celebrated today. Since 2000, many have been inducted into Central Catholic's Music Department Hall of Fame, and also have pursued and succeeded in professional musical careers. Gerald had always credited Monsignor John L. Harrington for both his hiring, and for having shared in Gerald's vision for the success of the Department. And he was especially proud to have also taught his daughter, Diane, as she had played in both Central's Marching Band and Orchestra.

Gerald's many other accomplishments include teaching Music Method Classes at Mary Manse College, Director of the St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns Church Choir, and serving in the 555th Air National Guard Band, where he was a player/conductor and had retired after over 20 years of service. He also participated in The Toledo Zoo Concerts "Music Under the Stars" for several seasons. The Jerry DePrisco Orchestra entertained music lovers for over 70 years playing parties, weddings, anniversaries, Christmas gatherings, and New Years Eve celebrations. Gerald served as Director of The Lynro Productions Summer Stock musicals, Director of St. Vincent's Nurses Choir, Director of The Toledo Swiss Singers, and the Director of the Central Catholic Alumni Glee Club at its inception. He also helped lead the Big Band Bash at Rusty's Jazz Cafe for 16 years.

His teaching career also included 11 years at Whiteford High School in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, and finishing his last 7 years in Education at the Maumee City Schools.

Gerald was introduced to the game of golf in his late 20's, and it quickly became a passion he carried throughout the rest of his life. He had cherished the many friendships that grew at both Heather Downs and Brandywine Country Clubs. It also was a great source of pride for him to have had both his sons, David and Daniel, become WGA Evans Scholars, having caddied throughout their grade school and high school years from their introduction to the game from their father.

Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved parents and siblings, and also his former wife Barbara Cook DePrisco. He is now survived by his daughter, Diane (Everett) Jennings; sons, David (Maura) and Daniel (Renata). He will also be greatly missed by his several nieces and nephews and cousin, Gertrude Delphino in Rome, Italy. He especially treasured his first 2 grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and Anthony Paulo DePrisco, both born this past year.
