Gloria A.

Gloria A. Gschwind, 82, went to the loving arms of Jesus on February 26, 2013. She was born in Artesian, South Dakota June 2, 1930, to Haskell and Olga (Aubry) Cunningham. She grew up in Mahnomen, MN a country farm girl. At the age of 12, she moved to the "Big City" of Toledo. In Toledo, she attended Spring School, Woodward HS, and graduated from Whitney Vocational HS, "small, but mighty sweet". She was employed at Petries clothing store in Downtown Toledo until she became a wife and a mother. She married Arthur L. Gschwind on November 18, 1950. Gloria joined the former Apostles Lutheran Church on Stickney Ave as a teen and was a member over 50 years. She belonged to the Friendship club, Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missionary Society and served as a Sunday school teacher. She and her husband were active in the Spring and Woodward PTAs and the Woodward Parent Band Boosters in the 1970s, serving at the football and basketball concessions. The greatest legacy a person can leave behind is that they have passed on their faith in Jesus Christ to their children and grandchildren. Gloria's example of her love, kindness, giving, forgiveness, and perseverance through hardship while never wavering from her faith were priceless gifts. Thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gloria resided at Swanton Valley for 7 years where she made many friends and joined in all activities, especially church, bingo, uno and was a Wii Bowling champion. She took her job as Resident Council President very seriously and was concerned upon admission to the hospital about who would run the meeting without her!

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Gschwind in 1993; daughter, Gloria Jean in 1976; and son Linton in 2011.

Surviving are her daughters, Audrey (Joe Mokry) Hannafius and Laura (Jeff) Stone; son, Derril (Kay) Gschwind; grandchildren, Ralph Hannafius II, Wendy Hannafius, Michael Pasco, Erin and Kayle Stone; great-grandchildren, Anna, Devin, Emma, Alex and Owen Hannafius, Michael and Stephen Hollingsworth; brother, Wallace (Joyce) Cunningham; sister, Beverly Mulinix, Coral (Ron) Mulinix. Thank you to all of her caregivers and doctors over the years at Swanton Valley (Harborside), Heartland Waterville, Regency, St. Luke's and UTMC.
