Irwin A. WELLING Obituary
WELLING Irwin A. Irwin A. Welling, age 87, of Genoa, OH, formerly of Millbury, OH, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Toledo Hospital, Toledo, OH, as a result of complications from injuries sustained during the June tornado. On December 27, 1922, he was born to Arthur and Ilah (Berndt) Welling in Millbury, OH. He married Alberna "Bernie" Wilkins on August 11, 1945, in Genoa, OH and she survives. Irwin was a life long farmer. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corp and was a POW for 11 months. His memberships include: life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge, OH, where he was past President, councilman, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman for St. John's Food Pantry and was active in various church committees. Irwin's other involvements include: Chairman of the Red Cross Blood Drive thru St. John's Lutheran Church, Golden Seaway Farm Council, Lake School Board for 12 years, Lake Band Boosters, past Chairman and member of the Lake Band Food Tent, Commander of Maumee Valley Chapter of Ex-POW's of Northwest Ohio, and the Walbridge VFW Post # 9963. Irwin is survived by his wife: Alberna "Bernie", daughters: Sharon (Ted) Bitter of Millbury, OH, Sandy Welling-Miller of Toledo, OH, son: Gary (Dianne) Welling of Perrysburg, OH, grandsons: Andrew (Janelle) Welling, Stephen (Leslie) Welling, Tyler Miller, Ethan Miller, great grandson: Eli Welling and brother: Alwin (Marian) Welling of Pemberville, OH formerly of Millbury, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; son in law, Nate Miller and sister, Doris Bockbrader. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, August 1, 2010, from 2- 4 & 6-8 PM at the Marsh Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH. Walbridge VFW Post # 9963 will conduct a Military Service at 6:00PM. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 11 AM from St. John's Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge, Ohio where there will be additional visitation from 10 AM until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. Daniel Beaudoin. Interment will be in Lake Township Cemetery, Walbridge, OH with full military graveside services by Walbridge VFW Post # 9963. There will be a bereavement luncheon served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal services. Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. John's Lutheran Church, American Red Cross, or Lake Twp. Tornado Long Term Recovery.
