Joanne Marie

1946-2013

Joanne Marie Durban, born November 4, 1947, to Emmanuel "Mike" and Jeanette (Spence) Durban, passed from this world and was reunited with her family on March 26, 2013. Joanne died from renal failure at Ebeid Hospice after being diagnosed with probable pancreatic and liver cancer the day before her death.

She was a 1965 graduate of Libbey High School and was employed by St. Vincent's Medical Center for approximately 30 years. She worked first as a rehabilitation therapist and later as a pharmacy technician retiring in 1997.

Jo and her mother were constant traveling companions. They took many trips from coast to coast visiting a great number of national parks and most beaches in Florida and along the Atlantic Ocean. Her idea of a perfect vacation included a long, long walk on a beach or the breathtaking view from a mountain top.

Having been a rehabilitation therapist, Joanne greatly enjoyed both making crafts and searching for unique treasures at shows in the area or while on vacation.

For many years, Joanne cared for her aging mother, Jeanette. In June of 2012, Mom fell breaking her hip. Ironically, two months later, in August, Jo also fell and broke her hip. Her mother passed away on January 29, 2013, at the age of 91, less than two months before Joanne.

In addition to her mother, Joanne was predeceased by her father and her younger brother, James.

Joanne will be sadly missed by dear friend and co-worker, Joyce, and lifelong friends and Bunco club members of 46 years: Judy F., Cathy, Rosie, Cheryl, Pam, Natalie, Becky, Kathy, Judy M., and Marge. Joanne enjoyed her life despite what many would have considered insurmountable disabilities. She was always available to talk, to listen, and to offer comfort or sage advice.

Those wishing to make a donation in Joanne's name are asked to consider the Toledo Animal Shelter, 640 Wyman Rd., Toledo, Ohio 43609, in honor of the cats she so loved. Also, consideration may be given to the as Jo dealt with diabetes for over 45 years.

Sincere thanks go out to the nursing staffs of Perrysburg Care and Rehabilitation Center and Springfield Meadows Senior Community for their friendship with and their compassionate care of Joanne during the last seven months.

Services will be private, per Joanne's request, with arrangements by Walter Funeral Home. Remembrances of Joanne or online condolences may be left at
