John Joseph Burkhart, age 92, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 14, 2013. He was born in Toledo on December 10, 1920, to John and Mary (Pitzen) Burkhart. John was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving his country during World War II. He was an alumnus of St. John Jesuit High School and De Sales College. A 1948 graduate of Ohio Northern University School of Law, John began his 50 year career as an attorney by establishing his practice with partner, Francis Restivo. John went on to serve as general counsel for TARTA, chief counsel for the City of Toledo Law Department and was an

attorney for the City of Toledo Prosecutors Office. He was the former president of the Ohio Municipal League, Former Commander of the American Legion Vernon McCune Post 132 and a

member of the Toledo Bar Association. John was a

parishioner of St. Catherine Church, where he was president of parish council.

John is survived by his

children, Kathleen (Ed) Coy, Patrick (Ann) Burkhart, John (Amy) Burkhart, and Michael (Kim) Burkhart; 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Blanche Burkhart in 2012; sisters, Dorothy Koch, Sister Mary Michael Burkhart, and Esther Burkhart-Scott, and brothers, Roy Burkhart and Louis Burkhart.

Family and friends may visit Friday, October 18, from 2:00-8:00 pm at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. where members of the St. Catherine Marian Society will lead a rosary at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin on Saturday at 9:15 am in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Church at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church,

University of Toledo Athletic Scholarship Program or Heartland Hospice. Please share condolences and memories at
