Mary Sabecki, age 89, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 17, 1923, in Ulaziv, Ukraine to Simon and Catherine (Luwinska) Nebesniak. During World War II, at the age of 18, Mary was forced to leave her home in Ukraine and was taken to Hollendorf, Germany where she worked in sugar and canning factories. After the War, she immigrated to the US with her husband, John and daughter, Ann, settling on Pearl St. in Toledo. In addition to being a homemaker, Mary worked in housekeeping for the LaSalle Department Store and Lion Store. She was always a hard worker and a wonderful cook with her specialties being Golumpki and Perogi. Mary was a parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Ann Sabecki; son, Michael (Sandy) Sabecki; grandchildren, Shelly Sabecki, Regina Sabecki, Roxann (Nathan) Shuster, and Jackie Sabecki; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sydney, and Peytyn Sabecki, and Matthew Shuster. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anna Nebesniak; and brothers, David and Nicholas Nebesniak.
Family and friends may visit Monday from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Mass of Resurrection at Regina Coeli Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
