Matthew J. Scowden, 27, of Sylvania, OH, passed away at home on Friday, September 21, 2012. Matt was born on December 8, 1984, in Glen Ellyn, IL to parents James C. and Donna R. (Ortolf) Scowden. Matt was a Personal Fitness Trainer at Super Fitness of Toledo and graduate of Sylvania Northview High School and Bowling Green State University.

Matt is survived by his parents, James and Donna (Ortolf) Scowden; maternal grandparents, Paul and Janet (Pater) Ortolf; aunts, Darcey Ortolf and Chera Finnis; sisters, Lindsay (Cucchi), Leslie, and Katie; brother-in-law, Jason; nephews, Jackson and Logan, and dear friend, David Hilbert. Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Wilmina Scowden; as well as several great-aunts and uncles.

Matt was best known for his passion and dedication to music with ability to play a variety of instruments; his specialties being the guitar, bass and keyboards. He was also fiercely athletic, playing rugby for Bowling Green State University, as well as a true team leader in sports clubs including dodgeball, flag football, kickball, and volleyball, not to mention his love for golf. Matt will forever be remembered for his huge heart, beautiful smile, competitive spirit and contagious, wry sense of humor.

Friends and family are welcome to visit at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, (just west of Corey Road) on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. with a brief service to follow. Memorial contributions in Matt's name can be made to the Toledo Area Humane Society at
