Melvin J. Holly, Sr., 82, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, under the loving care and support of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. His family gathered as Melvin began his peaceful journey to heaven. He was born June 28, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, and was the son of James W. and Nina (St. Aubin) Holly. Melvin entered the Army in 1952, serving as a medic during the Korean War. He was discharged from the war and married Dolores E. Varnes. Melvin made a career at Dana-Spicer Transmission for over 28 years. He retired in 1983, enjoying his hobbies of traveling and cheering on his favorite football team, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his children, Melvin (Linda) Holly Jr., Kenneth, Deborah Holly-Hurst, David (Linda Lou), Douglas, Michael, Norman Holly, 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Melvin was proceeded in death by his parents; brother, Frederick C. Holly, and sister, Dorothy Geddis.
Friends may call Tuesday, September 10, 2013, from 3 - 9 p.m. at the Reeb Funeral Home located at 5712 Main St., Sylvania, Ohio. Services will be held at Reeb at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Procession will follow to Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, where interment will take place, with military honors.
