Patricia Joan Updike

Patricia Joan Updike Riley, 78, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2013, at her home in Naples, FL. Pat was the youngest of seven children, born August 7, 1934, to the late Fleta Ellen Powell and Archie Middleton Updike.

Pat graduated from Lincoln High School and was 1952 Homecoming Queen. She received her Associates Degree from Vincennes University, a Bachelors Degree in Education from Indiana State University where she was also a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and later received her Masters Degree in Sociology from Toledo University.

Pat married W. Joseph Riley, her high school sweetheart on June 15, 1957. Together they raised and loved four children and felt fortunate to have many dear friends from Vincennes, IN, Toledo OH and Naples, FL.

Pat worked as a kindergarten and elementary school teacher and later found her passion of advocating for children by volunteering many years as a CASA volunteer and with other organizations protecting and supporting children. Pat was actively involved in Eagle Creek Country Club in Naples, FL for over twenty years. During her life Pat enjoyed many interests including golf, tennis, reading, sewing, bridge, bocce, needlework, crocheting and travel and bringing friends and family together. Our loss is enormous.

Family was very important to Pat. She cared deeply for her children, grandchildren and siblings. She was predeceased by her adoring husband of fifty years, William Joseph Riley; son, Christopher Joseph Riley, and beloved brother, William Dale Updike.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cathleen (Michael) Reddy of Horseheads, NY, Victoria (Mark LaFond) Riley of Saratoga Springs, NY; son, Kevin Archie Riley of Denver, CO; sister, Carol Faye Updike Michael; special niece, Kathy Blagrave; grandchildren, Bryan (Monika) Woods, Erin Riley Woods, and Grace Riley, many nieces and nephews and a multitude of lifelong friends.
