Raymond H. Bable, age 80, of Temperance, MI, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 20, 1932, in Toledo, OH, Raymond attended Woodward High School and the University of Toledo. He joined the US Army at age 18, serving 3 years in Germany during the Korean Conflict. While serving in Europe, he played baseball for Gen. Eisenhower, traveling throughout Europe. He was always proud of his service to the country.
Raymond was a baseball, golf and bowling enthusiast, playing softball 'til past 50. He shot one hole-in-one during his golf career and two 700+ series in bowling. His Detroit Tigers were his passion and he was recently able to watch them play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. In his spare time he was an avid reader and loved to play Bridge. Having boys, he actively coached baseball Little League 17 years and became a commissioner for the Trilby Baseball League.
Raymond worked at Toledo Edison for 30 years and after retiring early, he enjoyed teaching bowling after school to grade school kids for 13 years. Having 6 children, he loved working with kids and was "dad" to many others. He was grandpa to 7 and great "poppa" to 3. He was an active member of St. Clement Catholic Church serving as an usher many years, a member and trustee of the St. Clement Knights of Columbus and a volunteer for the Health Ministry. He also did volunteer work for St. Ann's Hospital. He was a member of the VFW Post 606, a past member of the American Legion McCune Post, and present member of the Eleanor Kahle Senior Center.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond C. and Ellen (Haggart) Bable; brother, Robert, and sister, Mary Ellen Bable. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marlene (Hazlett) Bable; daughters, Cheryl (Chuck) Miller, New Jersey, and Linda (Steve) Wojtowicz, Grand Rapids, OH; sons, Mark (Nancy), Waterville, Tom and twins, Ken and Kevin, all of Toledo; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and sister, Thelma Essex, Toledo.
Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Clement Church at 10:00 a.m. The Lucas County Burial Corps will conclude with a Military Committal Service in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
