Raymond "Yogi"



Raymond "Yogi" Helminiak, age 80, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 30, 2013. He was born on November 28, 1932, to James and Joanna (Polus) Helminiak in Toledo, OH. Raymond served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the CWV Logsdon Walla Post 639. He was employed as a technician for AT&T for 30 years, retiring in 1994. Ray was a longtime parishioner of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. He was a past president of the Telephone Pioneers, a member of the St. Hyacinth Holy Family Society and Church Seniors, and actively involved with Boy Scout Troop 20 at St. Agnes Grade School for over 25 years. During the summer of 1984, he proudly contributed his time to the Olympic Festival in Los Angeles, CA, by driving a support truck 1,000 miles.

Ray is survived by his sons, David (Cathy), and James (Sandee) Helminiak; sister, Dolores Dannenberger; grandchildren, David (Jennifer), James (Lacy), Kathryn, and Matthew Helminiak; and great-grandchildren, Giuliana, and Abigail. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Theresa, and grandson, Warren Helminiak.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, September 4, from 2-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. where members of St. Hyacinth Church and CWV 639 will lead a Rosary at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Hyacinth Catholic Church preceded by visitation in the church from 9-10 a.m. The Lucas County Burial Corps will conclude with a Military Committal Service in Resurrection Cemetery.
