I did not have the honor to meet Rhonda when she was living. I knew of her thru a mutual friend. I "meet" her because her husband was looking for someone who also needed oxygen. I will soon share the machine she used. I wish I had meet her in person. We could have shared some things we like, swimming, gardening and photography. She sounds like a wonderful woman!

I met Rhonda because she wanted to build a garden. She wanted the garden to surround her and her husband, and their dogs, and her friends and family. She wanted the garden to grow and to provide beauty and repose as her life with Paul would evolve and unfold. She envisioned a garden that would celebrate and honor all of the elements and landscape spaces she came to discover and love at Cranbrook and Scripps. She wanted a garden that would enable her to see things further the more she looked and studied them. She wanted a garden to wrap her in beauty, and to unfold with the change of seasons.

I was honored to meet her and work with her and Paul, and Jetson, and Astro, in the process of interpreting, designing, shaping, and constructing her garden oasis. In that process, I came to know a truly free human spirit empowered by curiosity and a love of the world around her. I learned what optimism in the face of adversity really is, and how its power can change the people and the world it engages. She was a marvelous person; and her spirit carries on as a guiding companion.

I love the picture of Rhonda provided on this Guest Book. That's the smile and warm heart I knew only so briefly.

We can all take faith in knowing that her spirit will dwell among her family and friends, and within her garden; and thus among those who may never have met her, through her warmth that dwells in that place on earth that she shaped.
