Richard Polk Sr.

Richard Polk Vaughan Sr., age 82, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Heatherdowns Rehabilitation and Care Center. He was born May 21, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, to Henry P. and Margaret (Spence) Vaughan. Richard served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of Purdue University where he received his Master's Degree. Richard was employed as an aviation engineer for Pratt Whitney, Continental Aviation and most recently with Teledyne Corporation. In 1968, he designed the Howmet TX Jet Propelled turbine engine for the Indy 500, raced by

Graham Hill. Richard was crew chief and head of top secret government jet

engines at Continental Aviation. He enjoyed photography, Iridology and nutrition, obedience training and

instructing dogs with the A.K.C., carpentry, gardening, mechanical modifications and deep sea fishing.

Left to cherish his memory is his first wife, Agnes Vaughan, and their loving children, Richard P. Vaughan, Jr., and Patricia (Ike) Mitchell; grandchildren, Mitchell and Hannah Vaughan, and sister,

Margaret (Kean) Degnan. In addition to his parents,

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, and brother, Henry "Hank" Vaughan.

The family will receive guests Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 4 - 6 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, (419-381-1900). A Memorial Service will follow in the funeral home at 6 p.m. To leave a special message for Richard's family please visit
