Robert H. Scheffert, 76, of south Toledo, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.

Robert was born July 13, 1936, to Harry and Isabell (Ross) Scheffert. Bob was a graduate of Libbey High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. Bob worked as a maintenance supervisor for Lucas County Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) for 30 years. During his career, Bob went into a burning building and rescued three preschool children, for which he received the President's Hero Award from the Toledo Lucas County Safety Council.

Bob, along with his wife Betty, were life-long members of Church of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaVerna "Betty" Scheffert; brother, Kenny Scheffert, and sister, Darlene Halpin. Bob is survived by son, Robert Scheffert, and daughter, Elisabeth Scheffert, and two grandchildren, Jordan and Rory. Also surviving are his brother, Jim (Wanda) Scheffert and sister Sharon (Bill) Olmstead.

Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Church of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 3620 Heatherdowns, Toledo, Ohio. Burial will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Memorials in Bob's name may be given to Church of St. Andrew general fund or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
