Ruth Reynolds Hadley

Obituary Condolences

A celebration of the life of Ruth Reynolds Hadley will take place on Monday, August 13th. Visitation will be at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 North Main Street, Sylvania, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and will include a short service. Immediately following will be a celebratory lunch and socializing for the afternoon at Highland Meadows Golf Club, 7455 Erie Street, Sylvania.

On June 21, 2018, at age 91, Ruth passed peacefully into the waiting arms of her beloved Savior Jesus Christ after a fulfilling life of service to causes dear to her. As a devout Christian and lifelong member of Ashland Church, Ruth could often be found hosting Bible study groups, acting as Christian Book Club chairman, ministering to shut-ins, and many other similar pursuits. At Ohio State University, Ruth joined what became a lifelong sisterhood of service with other Kappa Kappa Gamma women. She was the Kappa book club chairman for 35 years and also distributed the sororities' acclaimed Social Caper calendar to countless women for decades. She was presented with a cherished 65 Years of Service award in 2010.

Ruth's love for traveling may have begun with a 6-week trip to New York City in 1947 for a Columbia U. leadership course offered to presidents of student Christian associations from colleges all over the country. On June 20, 1950, Ruth and four friends sailed from Quebec aboard the Cunard White Star RMS Samaria to spend the summer touring nine countries in Europe by bicycle, boat and train. Lace purchased in Paris on that trip was later fashioned into her bridal veil when Ruth married Jack Hadley on April 28, 1951. After motoring through Canada to New York, they sailed on the maiden voyage of the Ocean Monarch to Bermuda and Nassau for their honeymoon. When son John and daughter Judith were old enough to appreciate the boundless beauty of America, Ruth and Jack delighted in introducing them to numerous National Parks during two cross-country summer driving trips. Many more trips and cruises followed during Ruth and Jack's 66 years of marriage.

Ruth also loved gardening, especially at home but also traveling to see the finest examples of gardens, whether formal, Japanese, or rose gardens, wherever they could be found. Ruth's life has certainly been a wonderful journey in so many ways, and we are blessed to have been along with her for part of the ride.

"When you live in the hearts of those you love, You never die."
