Vlasta M. Francel, 90, of Toledo, went to be with her Savior and Lord on July 17, 2013. Vlasta escaped from Communist rule in Czechoslovakia in 1948, and immigrated to the United States, earning her Masters Degree in English from Smith College in Boston, Massachusetts. Vlasta
married her beloved fiancé from Czechoslovakia, Josef Francel, in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1950. Together they moved to Toledo in 1953, where they raised their family of seven children. Vlasta loved traveling to her children's homes, and enjoyed participating in all the families' activities. She was an active, long time member of Gesu Catholic Church, where she was involved in numerous prayer groups and service ministries.
Vlasta's name means "noble one", and she was chosen by the Lord as one of His sheep. As an heir of salvation, her guardian angel was with her as she was crossing the barbed-wire fences and rivers, fleeing Communism, and her angel took her straight to heaven because she belonged to the Lord. Vlasta loved the Lord and considered her main ministry to be that of motherhood. To bring her children and grandchildren up, Christ was of great value, for the years will show her value by the lives their lives will touch. The hands that rock the cradle will rule the earth. Her children will rise up and call her blessed (Proverbs 31:28).
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Josef. She is survived by her seven children, George Francel, Helen Bissmeyer, Mary Pat Sares, Thomas Francel, Paul Francel, Peter Francel, and Ann-Marie Jocz. She loved her 7 children; 20 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family of Vlasta Francel will be celebrating her beautiful life of ninety years at a Friday evening 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Visitation at the Reeb Funeral Home, in Sylvania, on Friday, July 19, 2013. A Memorial Mass will be held at Gesu Catholic Church in Toledo on Friday, August 2, 2013, at noon.
