Joanna C. Borck, 89 years, of Temperance, MI passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. A school bus driver for Mason Schools, she retired after 20 years. The daughter of Dody and Martha (Gaynier) Jacobs, she was born May 18, 1924, in LaSalle, MI. She went to Albain School and attended St. Mary's Academy in Monroe. Joanna married James "Jim" Borck November 29, 1941, in St. John's Catholic Church in Monroe. He preceded her in death January 27, 1996, after nearly 55 years of marriage. A very loving mother and grandmother, she was always a hard worker. Joanna was a longtime cake decorator and an amazing baker and cook. Her family was happy to drive miles and miles to eat her food. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and doing other crafts. Joanna loved her cat, Melody, and also camping and traveling.
She had volunteered at Riverside Hospital in Toledo taking care of preemie babies. Joanna was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Erie, where she was a member of the Altar Society, a minister of Holy Communion, and served in prayer groups. She was also a teacher's aide for preschool and taught catechism.
She is survived by her loving children, Donna Jean (Ken) Nusbaum, Marie Catherine (John) Quirein, Lucinda Middaugh, Jennifer (Tad) Norts, James Borck II, Beth Ann (Lonnie) DuVall; grandchildren, Keith Nusbaum, Annette Russell, Kevin (Karen) Nusbaum, Kim (Tony) LeForce, Jonathan (Margarita) Quirein, Angelique (Shawn) Harkin, Erica (Ken) Fore, Rhiana Galindo, Brandan Borck, Tyler Norts, Nichole Borck, Brittany Borck, Danielle Borck; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Lambert; brothers, Glen Jacobs, and Edwin (Jean) Jacobs. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, James, Gene, and Edward Jacobs.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday, March 21, 2014, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Urbanski's Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 12 Noon in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Erie, where she will lie in state after 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
