Louis H. Jurski, age 89, of Toledo, went home to the Lord, Thursday, April 10, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born July 27, 1924, in Toledo to Ernest and Martha (Lechlak) Jurski. A 1942 graduate of Macomber High School, Louis went on to serve his country during World War II as a Seaman in the U.S. Navy. A Firefighter of the Toledo Fire Department for 33 years, Louis was assigned badge #197 in 1954, and later was awarded badge #1, designating him as the most senior firefighter on the department at the time.
A loving, giving, and dedicated husband, father and proud grandfather, Louis was a strong, determined, hard working provider, who enjoyed the simplicity of life. A sports enthusiast, Louis enjoyed attending UT Football, Mud Hens and Walleye games and was an avid bowler, participating in many leagues. He could often be found tending to his vegetable garden, working on home improvements, or riding his bicycle. Louis loved polka dancing with his wife, Sylvia, at the Paladrome and taking day trips to the casino. He was a parishioner of Gesu Catholic Church.
Louis is survived by his sons, Russell (Helen) Jurski and Robert Jurski; grandchildren, Kimberly and Adam Jurski; stepbrother, Tom (Betty) Jurski, and step-sister, Constance (Sam) Gruner. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sylvia Jurski.
Family and friends may visit Monday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. where there will be a Last Alarm Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin Tuesday, at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with a procession passing by Fire Station #24. The Funeral Mass will be in Gesu Church at 10:30 a.m. Services will conclude with Military Honors by the Lucas County Burial Corps in Calvary Cemetery. Please share memories and condolences at
