He was born to LeRoy Ducat and Beatrice Drury on October 11, 1921, in Toledo, Ohio. He spent his life in Toledo until July 2013, when he moved to Westerville, Ohio to be near his daughter, Sandra Thomason and grandson, Eric Thomason of Westerville, Ohio.

Gene joined the Army at age 21 and served in Co. C 53rd Armored Infantry Battalion 4th Armored Division. After returning from the war, Gene entered engineering. His last employ was with Bechtel Corporation in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After retiring, Gene joined the Mature Living News family selling advertising, until he moved to the Village at Westerville Retirement Community in July 2013.

With his insatiable quest for knowledge, Gene read many business magazines and the Wall Street Journal was his favorite newspaper. Always physically fit, Gene was active in the Senior Olympics at the University of Toledo. With his late wife, Jean, he traveled over 45,000 miles with the Nomads Flying Group out of Detroit Metro Airport. He had a passion for life and living and made friends wherever he went. Always impeccably dressed, he was known for his hats.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Thomason; his grandson, Eric Thomason; brother, Denzel Ducat (Margaret); nephews, Denzel (Sylvia) Ducat, Kenneth (Marcy) Ducat, Robert (Jeannie) Ducat, and eight great-nieces and nephews.

The family thanks the Village at Westerville Retirement Community for an atmosphere of love and happiness with so many varied activities for residents to enjoy. The family also thanks the Hospice angels that cared for him during his short stay at Kobacker House Hospice.

Those wishing to give memorials, in lieu of flowers, are asked to consider a donation to any organization that supports WWII veterans and other war veterans, or to an animal shelter of their choice.
