Clayton E. "Red"
Clayton Emil "Red" Lemke, age 78, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 20, after having spent Easter with his family. He has lived at Genoa Elderlife Village for the past 5 years. Red was born on April 26, 1936, to the union of Arthur and Clara Ellen (Hetrick) Lemke. He was baptized on April 30, 1936. He was lovingly raised by his grandma and grandpa, Emil and Nettie Lemke. He graduated from Elmore High School. Red proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1954 until his Honorable Discharge in 1960. Red worked for Ottawa County and Allen Township Trustees from 1958 until his retirement in 1986. Red's very favorite part of his job was plowing snow into the night and in the early morning hours.
On June 16, 1956, in Williston, OH, Red married the love of his life, Joyce Sievert and they shared 46 years together. Red was a faithful caregiver to Joyce through many of her trials in life.
Red was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Williston, OH. Red was a "card shark" who loved all card games. His hobbies included gardening, ice fishing, wood-working and most of all the upholstering that he and Joyce did together. They made many pieces of old furniture into beautiful heirlooms for many people.
Left to cherish Red's memory are his devoted and caring children, Clifton (Renee) Lemke of West Bloomfield, MI and Jill (Michael) Weddle of Martin, OH; his loving grandchildren, Ciera "CiCi," Clifton II "Cliffy," Clayton and Evan; a brother, Raymond "Gene" (Lois) Nolan; two nieces and a nephew; sister-in-law, Diane (Ronald) Gerkensmeyer. He was preceded in death by his wife, his faithful and loyal grandparents and his parents.
