Helen E. Allen, born August 25, 1910, in Cleveland, Ohio went home with the Lord Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at age 103. She was the daughter of Alvin P and Elberta S. Wightman.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Allen; brothers, Arthur P. and Clarence W. Wightman; sisters-in-law, Betty Wightman of Candler, Florida and Sophie R. Wightman of Toledo, Ohio.
Helen worked as an assistant nurse for Dr. William Hendricks, podiatrist and surgeon for 24 years. She was an Avon representative for 42 years, and belonged to Avon's President Club, earning a number of Albee awards. She achieved the Spirit of Avon award with a standing ovation and later was given an honorary status. She was still selling up to today!
Helen loved music, belonging to an acapella choir and drama club in her younger years. She loved outdoor sports, running, camping and boating. Flowers and outside work was her passion!
Her and her husband enjoyed to ride their Harley and in later years she enjoyed riding with her grandson. She belonged to the Boggin Brothers and Family LTD Motorcycle club! Helen "Spitfire" Allen took her last ride on her 100th birthday!
Left to cherish her memory is her family she dearly loved, son, James R. Allen of Fairhaven, Michigan and daughter, Joyce E. Allen of Maumee, Ohio; grandchildren, Joseph Allen, John Allen, Maria Olson and others; great-grandchildren, Fiona, Lily, Georgia, Sarah, and Maitland; 6 nieces and many beloved friends.
Helen was gifted with fantastic humor! She was a tremendous encourager, supporter, and true friend to so many. Helen was competitive and very goal directed! She loved all of life's challenges and changes that came with 103 years of living! She loved the Lord, her family and friends so much. She will be missed.
Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, Thursday, April 24, 2014, from 3-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Cornerstone Church, 1520 Reynolds Road, Maumee, Ohio 43537 on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 10 a.m. with pastor David Banks of Cornerstone and Chaplain Ken Papenhagen of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, officiating. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014, 12 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Geneva, Ohio, 44041.
