Herbert H. Finney, 90, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully at his daughter's residence, under Hospice care, on Thursday, April 24, 2014. He was born in Delta, OH to Elmer and Bessie (Tedrow) Finney.
Herbert was married in 1945 to Joyce (Nichols) Finney. They enjoyed 63 years together, raising their daughters, until her passing in 2009. He proudly served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corp. Herbert was shot down over Wessel, Germany and was a Prisoner of War, earning him a Purple Heart and POW medal.
He was a member of Lambertville United Methodist Church for years and spent many years traveling to Amish Country in southern Ohio. He loved doing yard work and was an avid reader. He and his wife traveled the United States for many years sightseeing. In addition to his children, he adored his beloved pets, Gigi, Torfin, Max and Lucy. They were never far from his side.
In addition to his wife, Herbert was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanette Dickson; great-granddaughter, Jessica; 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Darlene M. Thompson; grandchildren, Anthony Dickson, Cheree Miles, John Elias and great- grandchildren, Logan, Caitlen, Sasha, and Austin, and sister, Evelyn.
Family and friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, OH from 12:00 p.m. until the service begins at 3:00 p.m. Those wishing to give a contribution in Herbert's memory may wish to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Toledo Humane Society.
