Viola "Vie" Downard, 93, of Sylvania, OH, and a current Oak Leaf Village resident, passed away Tuesday, May 6, at Flower Hospital. She was born to parents Carl and Emma (Lindh) Berg, May 30, 1920, in Morocco, IN.
Vie was employed with Bell & Gosset, Inc. located in Morton Grove, IL, where she served as secretary to the Chief Engineer. She enjoyed time spent at the Sylvania Senior Center, where she had been a member since 1984. Vie was active in scouting for many years and was known for the homemade greeting cards she made for family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Jody (Darrell) Goins; son, Richard (Barbra) Downard; 7 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Vie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Emerson Downard, whom she wed in May of 1920, in Evanston, IL; grandsons, Reed Downard and Matthew Goins and dear friend, Harvey Betts.
Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Friday May 9, from 12 p.m., until the Funeral Ceremony begins at 2 p.m. Dr. Joseph Y. Hara, of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
