Marion Dean "Ace"

Marion Dean "Ace" Knight, age 93, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, surrounded by his loving family.

Dean was born in North Adams, Michigan in Hillsdale County to parents Minor and Louise (Porter) Knight. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1938. Dean attended the University of Toledo, as part of his military training when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He served in the Pacific, until his discharge in 1946, as a ground crew mechanic for the B-29s.

Dean was employed at the Jeep Plant for 43 years through many name changes. He also farmed for many years and enjoyed planting his vegetable garden every year. Dean cut all his own wood for his wood burning furnace. He worked auctions for many years, hunted, and looked forward each year to snow skiing, which he did until the age of 90.

Sports at Whiteford School were very important to Dean. He was selected as the 1st Fan of the Year for attending almost all football, basketball, and baseball games for over 50 years.

Dean built the Franklin Park airport, which is now the Franklin Park Mall. Dean and his son, Richard, both private pilots, bought a plane and built a runway, on his farm that they used for many years.

He was a lifetime member of the Lambertville VFW Post 9656 where he served as a member of the color guard.

Dean married Florence Seifert in September 1944. They had two children.

Dean is survived by his wife, Florence; son, Richard (Colleen) Knight; grandchildren, Shayne (Danielle) Knight, Chad (Amy) Knight, Jeffrey Watson and Lori Lyn (Jason) Utesch; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Isaiah, Ashley, Lexi, Hunter and Skyler and sisters-in-law, Carol Mae (Bob) Vesey and Grace Bodley, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Kay and her husband, Gene Watson; brother, Theodore and sister-in-law, Virginia Knight.

Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, Sunday, May 18, 2014, from 2-8 p.m., where the Lambertville VFW post 9656 will conduct a service at 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Toledo

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests tributes to Whiteford High School Athletic club or Schuss Mt Volunteer Ski Patrol C/O Larry Murton, 1100 Intermediate Lake Drive., Central Lake, MI 49622 or a .
