LaVerne Fifer, 97, passed away peacefully at her home on May, 6, 2014. LaVerne was born on May 3, 1917, in Xenia, IL to Edward and Estella Hillyer. She married Newell "Pete" Fifer on May 19, 1950. A longtime member of Broadway UMC and Church of St. Andrew UMC, LaVerne was very active and held numerous positions with the Women's Group of Broadway United Methodist. LaVerne is also considered the matriarch of the Toledo Country Limits service at the Church of St. Andrew. An avid quilter and piano player, she loved to camp with friends and family. She especially enjoyed the times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and was the last surviving of ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Ruby (Ian Miners) Fifer; son, Donald Fifer; grandchildren, Michelle (David) Cousino, Edward Fifer, Adryan Miners and Sara Miners, and great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Camryn Cousino. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Celebration of LaVerne's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Church of St. Andrew UMC, 3620 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43614. Those planning memorials in LaVerne's name are asked to consider the Toledo Country Limits in c/o Church of St. Andrew.
