Robert E. Barnett, 94, died at 12:04 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, at Bluffton Hospital. He was born on August 27, 1918, in Whitehouse, Ohio to the late Paul Barnett and Bertha (Studer) Barnett. He was married for 71 years to Mary Marshall Barnett, who survives.
Other survivors include their children, David (Marilyn) Barnett of Albany, NY, Jayne (Richard) McGarrity of Bluffton, Jim (Nancy) Barnett of Syracuse, NY; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Helen Dimick of Perrysburg.
Robert received a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and a second degree from OSU, Columbus. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked as a process engineer at Westinghouse and Ford Motor Company in Lima, OH. In Bluffton, Robert served on the Library Board, as a Boy Scout leader, an elder of the Bluffton Presbyterian Church and was a 50 year member of the Lions Club.
Funeral Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Bluffton Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Good officiating. A reception will follow. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton. Memorial contributions may be made to Bluffton Presbyterian Church.
