Kay O'Connell, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Ebeid Hospice on May 28, 2014. She was born in Toledo, OH on April 30, 1940, to Robert and Mary Jane Lawrence. Kay graduated from Perrysburg High School and attended both Olivet and Miami of Ohio University.
She was a caring and devoted secretary for the Toledo Public Schools for many years. Her kindness and generosity mentored and inspired many students.
Kay's interests included gardening, golf, crossword puzzles and entertaining at her home, where a good time was guaranteed! She loved shopping with her daughter, and traveling to beautiful destinations such as Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica with her husband. Kay was also the biggest Duke basketball fan you'd ever meet! She will be remembered for the ever present smile on her face, her kindness, and her sassy stubbornness.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas; her daughter, Stacy Alani; her brothers, Bill (Shirley) and Denis Lawrence; nephews, Michael (Dawn) and Jeff Lawrence; niece, Jessica Lawrence, and her special canine friend, Bella. Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cecily Abel, and her aunt and uncle, Alice and Jack Savage.
Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Tuesday, June 10, from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer and "sharing of memories" service at 6 p.m. Interment will be private. Those wishing to contribute in Kay's memory may do so to the
