Evelyn Kwiatkowski Obituary

Evelyn V.

Evelyn V. Kwiatkowski, age 96, of Toledo, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio's Toledo facility after a long illness. She was born on February 4, 1918, in Toledo to Anthony and Wanda (Suminski) Kosmatka. Evelyn relished being the wife of a Police Captain/Attorney, and mother of a Diocesan Priest. A devoted homemaker, she was a wonderful cook and an outstanding baker whose baked goods barely made it from car to table when being sold at church bake sales. She was a hardworking woman, taking in laundry and ironing for area businessmen so that she could remain a stay-at-home mom. She also cleaned her husband's law offices at Wernert's Corners at night. Evelyn was immensely proud of her son, the Rev. Paul Kwiatkowski. She and her husband Ted enjoyed taking care packages to Paul at St. Meinrad College in Southern Indiana. They traveled throughout Europe with him while he was a seminarian at the North American College in Rome, and attended his ordination at St. Peter's Basilica along with 14 other family members. Evelyn was a longtime parishioner of St. Clement Catholic Church and member of the church's Altar Rosary Society. She also supported all of the parishes where Fr. Paul was assigned. She was known to many throughout the diocese for her beautiful smile and delightful personality, and will be dearly missed.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, on August 19, 1996; parents, Anthony and Wanda; sister, Mrs. Florence Kosakowski, and brother, Edward Kosmatak. She is survived by her son, Rev. Paul Kwiatkowski, and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114-128 East Alexis Rd., where a Scripture Service and sharing of memories will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin on Friday 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Clement Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Special thanks to niece, Joyce Thome and her husband Bill, and neighbors, Marianne and Jerzy Wierczynski, Monica and Richard, Rocky and Arlene Ruetz, and Michelle Patton, for helping look after Evelyn these past years. Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Clement Catholic Church. Online condolences can be shared at
