Lucille R.

Lucille (Lucy) R. Atkins, 88, passed away on June 17, 2014, at Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center. She was born July 5, 1925, to Frank and Adelea (Montaiz) Yglesias in Ennis, TX.

Her various occupations included El Pinto Restaurant, where she was known for being a wonderful cook and waitress (family and friends especially looked forward to her Mexican meals), and St. Luke's Hospital on Robinwood. She retired from Toledo Public Schools.

Lucy possessed many wonderful qualities, she was very loving, compassionate, generous, witty and full of laughter. Unselfish of her time, she was a caregiver to whoever was in need, and throughout the years she watched over nieces, nephews and grandchildren whom will deeply miss her. She enjoyed Segundas (garage sales), shopping, bingo, traveling, and country music most.

Lucy is preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Helen Yglesias; first husband of 22 years, Ambrose L. Salazar, and husband, Coy Atkins; brothers, Frank, Manuel and Ralph; sisters, Janice, Lupe and Rose; sons, David, Trino and Richard Salazar; grandchildren, Robert L. and Thomas M. Salazar. She is survived by her sons, John Henry Salazar and Robert (Sue) Salazar; daughters, Lucy, Linda (Rudy) Guardiola-Salazar, Nancy Salazar (Laurie Salazar) and Rose Atkins; brother, John (Ruth) Yglesias; sister-in-law, Helen Yglesias; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Lisa and Scott Mitchell and their exceptional staff at Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center for the love and care given to our mother the last ten years and especially in the last days of her life. This care and love was extended to our family members at the end of her time with them. To Hospice of Northwest Ohio, thank you.

A Memorial Celebration of Lucy's life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio.
