Lawrence "Hatch"

Lawrence "Hatch" Merritt, age 82, formerly of Willamont Rd., passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 31, 1932, in Toledo to Norman and Sophia (Kurek) Merritt. Lawrence worked as a machinist for Press Equipment and Abbey Aetna for over 30 years, retiring in 1997. In his younger years, he worked for his uncles, at M&M Millworks remodeling kitchens and as a cabinet maker. Lawrence was always an inspiration to his family and co-workers because of his strong work ethic. He loved the outdoors, especially camping and fishing at Camp DiClair on Nettle Lake in Pioneer, Ohio.

Lawrence is survived by his daughters, Judy (David) Szumigala and Sharon Ann Merritt; sons, Gary (Trisha), Steven (Sharon), Doug (Becky), Greg, Jay (Kay), David (Michele), Jeff (Jill) Merritt; 24 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Angie Fassold, Rosie (Bob) Marksch, Carol (Joe) Jagielski, Patty (Les) Case, Kathy (David) Blowers, and brothers, Chuck Merritt and Robert (Carol) Merritt. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ina Irene Merritt; daughter-in-law, Jan Merritt, and brother-in-law, Charles Fassold.

Family and friends may visit Monday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4030 Douglas Rd., and will be preceded by visitation in the church from 8:30-10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
