CAYIA

Thomas Lamab

Thomas Lamab Cayia, age 90, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 30, 2014. He was born in Maumee, Ohio on November 30, 1923, and was a lifelong resident of Maumee, graduating from Maumee High School in 1941. Tom was a WWII Army Veteran and served three years, two of which were in the European Theatre with the 202nd Combat Engineers Batallion. He was a member of VFW 2510 Post.

Tom married the love of his life, Roselyn, on May 17, 1947, after they fell in love through the letters they exchanged while he was serving in WWII. He was a lifelong member of Maumee United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities, his favorite being a 30 year choir member. Professionally, Tom was a skilled upholsterer, and not only do many folks in the area remember his quality work, they also remember him as a sweet and gentle man who loved engaging others in conversation. He endeared himself to all of the hospice staff who lovingly helped his daughters care for him this past year at his home.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rosie; his father and mother, Louis and Lulu (Clarke) Cayia, and two sisters. Tom is survived by his loving daughters, Linda (Lyle) Rice of Portage, MI, Brenda Fuller of Maumee, Cathy (Rick) Bossa of Toledo, Melody (Alan) Varney of Maumee; grandchildren, Erica (Joe) Sarnowski, Benjamin (Virginia) Bossa, Thomas Bossa, Andrew Bossa, Jodi (Jon) Rodda and Ryan (Jenn) Varney, and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee from 4-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. The family requests any memorials be made to Maumee Valley Church, 8715 Garden Rd., Maumee or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio.
