Barbara Sue

Barbara Sue Magsig, 80, of Elmore, OH died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Mercy St. Vincent Heart & Vascular Center, Toledo, Ohio. She was born June 9, 1934, in Galion, OH, to the late Clyde and Ada (Trautman) Richardson. Due to the early death of her mother, Barbara was raised by her uncle and aunt, Harry and Sue Trautman. She was a 1952 graduate of Harris-Elmore High School, and the former wife of Burton Magsig, who preceded her in death in December of 2010. Barbara received her national certification with Norman E. Samuelson, Inc. as a certified hearing aid audiologist, where she was licensed in both Ohio and Michigan. In the 1980's she worked for the Lawrence Welk Resort in Escondido, CA. She also was a certified beauty consultant for BeautiControl, as well as an optician for Lens Crafters for seven years in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 2004, she retired from JC Penney, where she worked for over 20 years.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Elmore, OH. Barbara served as a past council member, Honor Worker, various search committees, choir, Women's Guild, and Bereavement Committee. She also held memberships in the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Elmore Chamber of Commerce, and Elmore Golden-Oldies. In 2012, she was honored as the Ottawa County Senior Volunteer of the Year. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and visiting with friends at both the Elmore Senior Center and the Elmore Retirement Village.

Survivors include her children, Steven Magsig, Susan Magsig, and Joyce (Dennis Blue) Barnes; grandchildren, Christa Rosenberg, Betty (Joe) Conklin, Jamie (Carrie) Barnes, Melissa (Erin Sanders) Barnes, Bryan (Laura) Barnes; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Loren (Annette) Trautman, Robert Richardson; sister- in- law, Joanne Richardson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Dr. Maggie Mercer; brothers, Donald and William Richardson; sisters, Betty Dinkel, Ruth Frutiger, and Evelyn Votaw.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, Elmore. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of fellowship after the service in the church basement. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, Elmore.
