Joan Gebhardt Obituary
GEBHARDT

Joan

Joan Gebhardt passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014, while surrounded by her three daughters. She was born on June 12, 1932, to Raymond and Margaret Crowe. Joan grew up in a Hales Corners, Wisconsin and loved the time that she spent with all of her relatives on their farms. She always lit up sharing tales of her childhood and stories about all of her aunts, uncles, and grandpa.

Her caring nature was obvious at a young age and led her to her destiny to become a nurse. For nearly 43 years, Joan cared for others and has always been drawn to help those in need. After moving to Toledo with her young family, Joan worked at St. Luke's Hospital and then Flower Hospital for many years. She ultimately found her way to The Lutheran Home, Oregon, OH, where she found a new passion working with the elderly. There were many who thrived from her kindness, care, and concern.

Joan found a rewarding career in nursing, but watching her daughters grow up and becoming a grandmother was one of her greatest pleasures. She doted over her grandbabies and her memories of her young grandchildren were cherished. In fact, she became known as, "Grandma Nurse." In recent years, she became a great-grandmother and enjoyed reminiscing about watching her eight grandchildren grow up.

She ultimately found her home at Spring Meadows Astor House, where her kindness and zest for life was obvious until her final days. She always checked on her neighbors and most of all, enjoyed dancing!

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Nancy.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen (Mike) Jones, Polly (Kent) Guisinger and Susan Seibert; her grandchildren, Garrett Jones, Julia Jones, Griffin Jones, David Redlin, Amanda Redlin, Hannah (Jessie) McCray, Anthony Maroun and Stephanie Maroun, and her great-grandson, Braylon; as well as one yet to be named great-grandbaby on the way.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014, 2 p.m. at Toledo Memorial Park, in the Chapel of Peace, 6382 Monroe Street, Sylvania, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio.
