Luann Behnen Obituary

Luann D. "Lou"

Luann D. "Lou" Behnen, 59, of Holland, passed away August 10, 2014, at the University of Toledo Medical Center, after three years of battling breast cancer. Luann was born October 24, 1954, in Toledo to Carl and Caryol (McLargin) Blaesing. She was a woman who unconditionally loved her family, the University of Toledo and the occasional margarita.

She joined the University of Toledo as a custodian in 1992. Luann soon found her calling as a Clerical Specialist working with the students and staff in the Academic House and the Crossings residential halls. She took great pride serving as a surrogate mother to countless students away from home and was frequently known as "Momma Lou" and "Nana Lou." She was an amazing person able to touch people with her contagious smile and deep-belly laugh. Her positive attitude, generosity and maternal instincts let her live a life in service to others. Luann enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and time at the campground with her husband. Luann will undoubtedly be missed by all of her family and friends. Her passing has left a void that will never be filled. Luann, a loving and beautiful wife, mother, grandmother (Mom Mom), sister, aunt, and friend to all she met, left the world much to early.

Luann was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Janet Mauck. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Alan; her children, Melissa (Rob) Sobiniak, Sarah (Timothy) Black, Erica (Chris) Aldrich; brothers, George (Jeanne), Carl (Linda), David (Cassie), Mike (Cindy) Blaesing; grandchildren, Sloane, Finn, Abel; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 p.m. at the Dowling Funeral Home, 7509 New West Road at King Road, (King Rd between Central and Sylvania Ave.), Toledo, 419-841-8111. Funeral services will be Saturday 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to The Victory Center or the Donor's choice.
