Doris passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014, in her home in Reading, MI after a two month battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer. Born March 12, 1939, to Neil and Marie (Jewell) Kirian in Toledo, OH, she had two older brothers, Norbert and Donald. Doris graduated from Libbey High School in 1957. She met her future husband, Carl Grajczyk, in 1956, and they married on October 12, 1957.
Doris worked at Autolite as a secretary from 1957 until 1963, at which time she and Carl took in Nile Wilson, the first of two brothers, when he was 18 months old from the foster care system. The following year, Nile's biological brother, Robert Wilson, was brought into the family, and both were raised as their own. In 1968, Carl and Doris had a baby boy, Kenneth.
Beginning around 1960, Doris became an avid collector of Fenton Art Glass and was a member of Fenton Art Glass Collectors of America. She became a dealer of Fenton glass in the 1980s, making multiple trips each year down to the Fenton Factory in West Virginia. After many years of collecting and selling Fenton, Doris became very knowledgeable of the glass, to the point that she was often consulted by other collectors and dealers to aid in identifying and valuing rare pieces of Fenton glass. Doris's personal collection consisted of over 2500 pieces of glass.
Doris and Carl made their home on West Erie Road in Temperance, MI until 1998, when they retired and became "snowbirds," spending winters in North Port, FL and summers at their home in Reading, MI. Doris was an aficionado of scrabble, cribbage, and euchre. At their winter home in Florida, Doris was able to participate in scrabble, cribbage, and euchre at the housing community's clubhouse where she belonged to clubs that hosted the various games on a weekly schedule.
Doris is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl; son, Ken (Connie); grandchildren, Tyler, Jason, Jake and Katie; nephews, Steve (Norma) Kirian and Norbert (Sandy) Kirian, and niece, Mary Lee (Jeff) Lennix.
