BURKETT William "Bill" William "Bill" Burkett, age 59, of Monroe, died February 14, 2009, at the University of Toledo Medical Center after a lengthy illness with pneumonia. Bill was a Skilled Trade Pipefitter at the Ford Motor Company Woodhaven Plant for 37 years working through the UAW Local 387 where he served as Skilled Trade Committeeman, Bargaining Skilled Trade Committeeman and Employee Resource Coordinator. A devoted public servant, he proudly served on the Monroe City Council, Precinct 1, for 12 years. Bill was active with Team Greyhound of Toledo having rescued three Greyhound Dogs with his wife. Bill's legacy lives with his loving family: wife, Chris; children, Julie A. Burkett of Mansfield, Ohio, Michael (Dawn) Burkett of Monroe, Kathy G. (Jeff) Hansen- Myers of Monroe, Wendy C. (Casey) Hansen-Walker of Toledo and six grandchildren, Samantha Myers, Allyson Myers, Jacob Myers, Morgan Burkett, Michael Burkett Jr., and Madison Burkett. Sadly Bill was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 203 E. Elm Ave. There will be an 8 p.m. Chalice Presentation by Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly 0488 River Raisin. Funeral services will be on Thursday. He will lie in state from 12 noon until a mass at 1 p.m. from The Immaculate Heart of Mary Mother House Chapel. Fr. Marc Gawronski of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate.
