WHITE Robert Thomas Robert Thomas White, 89, was born on August 20, 1921, in Toledo, Ohio. He was the only child of Marguerite (Donohue) and Thomas A. White. He married Kathryn Braunschweiger on June 25, 1943. At the time of his death on September 9, 2010, they had been married 67 years. Bob lost his mother at 13, during the height of the Depression and had a difficult childhood. He graduated from Libbey High School in 1939 and attended Wabash College where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. World War II called and Bob entered the service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was assigned to the 65th Engineer Combat Battalion of the 25th Infantry Division. He fought in the Phillipines as a part of the invasion of Lingayon Gulf and Luzon. He was awarded the Bronze Star and his company, a Presidential Unit Citation. He later served in the occupation of Japan and left the service with the rank of Captain. He was on of the Greatest Generation. Well liked by all, Bob was a salesman of product in the construction industry. His employments with the Flint Kote Co., Celetex Corp. and Security Aluminum Co. took him to Rocky River, OH and ultimately to Grosse Pointe, MI. He returned to Toledo in 1966 with the former Jennison-Wright Corporation and in 1984 formed the Robert T. White Co. Inc., which he operated until 2005. In his life, Bob was a member of the Toledo Rotary Club (1983-2000) where he achieved 17 years of perfect attendance and was a Paul Harris Fellow; the Toledo Country Club; the Toledo Club, where he was a part of the Nooners and Hermits Luncheon Groups, Toledo Post #335 of the American Legion; Maumee Elks Lodge 1850 and a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church. He is survived by his wife; son, Randall Allen (Ann) White of SpingLake, MI; grandchildren, Chad (Amy) White and Leigh Rebone of Sping Lake, Dawn (Jeff) Auch fo Montague, MI, Hilary (Ivan) Meiring of Elmhurst, IL; niece, Emily Brown; nephew, Gary Palm and 6 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., on Sunday, September 12, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 4 PM Sunday. Interment will be private for the family.
