BOWERS Kenneth L. Kenneth L. Bowers, age 81, of Brooklyn, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan. He was born on September 18, 1929 in Norwalk, Ohio to Earl L. and Dorothy (Nehls) Bowers. He married Nancy A. Gilmore on August 15, 1953 in Marion, Ohio, and she survives. Ken was raised in Toledo and then he lived in Swanton, Ohio for 35 years before moving to Brooklyn, MI in 1991. Ken and Nancy wintered in Mesa, Arizona. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1947, and attended the University of Toledo. He was a career Electrician for the University of Toledo, retiring in 1991. As a child Ken enjoyed spending time at his grandfather's farm in Norwalk, Ohio. He was an avid football fan of U of T, Ohio State University and proudly followed his grandson's sporting events. He was a lover of nature, especially song birds, ducks and swans. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding birds, hiking and woodworking. He was a member of the Heart O' The Lakes United Brethren Church of Brooklyn. He took great pride in his children and loved working with kids in AWANA and Vacation Bible School at the Church. He was also a U of T Alumni Association, an Ohio State Alumni Association and U of T Retirees Association member. In 1991, Ken was honored with the U of T Outstanding Staff Person Award. Ken was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. Surviving besides his wife Nancy are one daughter, Karen L. Bowers of Little Torch Key, FL; one son, Thomas L. (Annette) Bowers of Toledo; one grandson, Eric L. Bowers of Toledo, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert E. Bowers. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Heart O' The Lakes United Brethren Church in Brooklyn, with Pastor Kevin Cherry officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the church.
