BUSDIEKER Donald O. Donald O. Busdieker, of Toledo, OH, died on Saturday, May 12, 2012, after prolonged illness. Born on June 23, 1923, he was the son of John and Clara Busdieker. He is survived by his loving companion and caregiver, Collette Box; daughters, Janice (Frank) Polesovsky of Maumee, OH, Ellen (Robert) Irwin of Memphis TN, and Susan (Dean) Fisher of Fallston, MD. His seven grandchildren, include Emily (Myron) Williams, Donald (Marna) Fisher, Eric (Jona) Polesovsky, Robert (Kellie) Irwin, Julie (Joe) Kennedy, Jeffrey (Christina) Polesovsky and Andrew Polesovsky; great-grandchildren he leaves behind are, Zachary Williams, Abby Polesovsky, Robert Paxton Irwin, Jack Polesovsky, and Luke Fisher. He is also survived by his sister Charlotte Marsh. His wife of 55 years, Rita Glass Busdieker, preceded him in death in 1999. Donald attended Woodward High School in Toledo. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United State Army. He was a member of the 23rd. Battalion of the Golden Acorn 87th. Division in World War II. He was present at the Battle of the Bulge and kept in touch with fellow soldiers for many years after the war. He lived to see the dedication the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. After the war Don worked for U.S. Postal Service at Station E as a mail carrier. He was beloved by the people on his routes. He initiated a Breakfast Club with retired postal workers, who met monthly for over 20 years at a local diner. He also did plumbing and handy-man work for many friends and neighbors. Donald was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He loved to travel, dance, go to music under the stars at the Toledo Zoo, to camp and relax by the water. He visited his children and grandchildren frequently, attending games, recitals and babysitting when called upon. His humorous antics will be missed by all. Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, OH on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Williston Cemetery, Williston, OH. Memorial contributions in Donald's name may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
