Delmar Jay SAUDER Obituary
SAUDER Delmar Jay Delmar Jay Sauder, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2012, as he watched TV in his recliner at his home in Fairlawn Haven, Archbold, OH. Delmar was born on July 13, 1930, to Erie and Leona Sauder and lived all of his life in Archbold. He attended Archbold High School until age 16, when he began working in the factory at Sauder Woodworking Company. Delmar was a hard worker, loyal, and dependable. He enjoyed people from all walks of life and was often a friend to the friendless. He welcomed international students and served migrant farm families in the 1950's. In 1974, Delmar joined his father in working to create Sauder Village. He spent the rest of his working life assisting with maintenance and grounds and pursuing his passion of caring for the animals at the Village. Delmar married Evelyn Lee on February 15, 1976, and enjoyed their life together until her death in 1993. Delmar spent his early years as a member of Central Mennonite Church where he was baptized as a youth. Throughout his adult life, he was an active member of Tedrow Mennonite Church. Delmar was also an enthusiastic fan of local high school girls and boys sports and readily knew the scores of every team in the area. All those who knew and loved Delmar will remember his generous spirit and caring nature. He was generous with his time and resources, supporting many organizations. He was especially passionate about Sauder Village and often said he wanted to keep his dad's dream alive. Delmar is survived by his brothers, Maynard (Carolyn) Sauder and Myrl (Freida) Sauder and nieces and nephews, Debbie (David) David, Kevin (Sandra) Sauder, Diane (Garrett) Tinsman, Nancy (late Greg) Bontrager, Dan (Ezzie) Sauder, and Julie (Trevor) Crossgrove. He is also survived by 16 grandnieces and nephews. A celebration of Delmar's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Tedrow Mennonite Church, with Pastor Doug King and Pastor Ryan Nafziger officiating. Interment will be in the Pettisville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Fairlawn Haven. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Sauder Village. Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with arrangements.
