Margaret ALSPAUGH Obituary

ALSPAUGH Margaret Margaret H. Alspaugh, age 97, of Sylvania, Ohio and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Ebeid Hospice Residence after a short illness. She was one of the oldest members and volunteers of the Sylvania Senior Center where she helped with many quilting projects in addition to participating in the Sylvania Historical Sewing groups. One of Margaret's greatest loves of quilting was making them for her family. During her life she traveled to every state in the United States as well as to many countries. Margaret was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Elks, the White Shrine, the Darke County Ohio Farm Bureau, the Coin Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. She attended The First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. For many years, she worked at the Darke County fair making and selling funnel cakes. She and her husband owned and operated a warehouse and several businesses in Gettysburg and Greenville. Margaret was a huge baseball fan and for several years held season tickets to the Cincinnati Reds. She loved watching the Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, and attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's athletic events. Margaret is survived by her grandchildren, Jan (John) Watkins of Sylvania, Joe (Cathy) Alspaugh of Foster City, CA, and Jon (Speedy Helen) Alspaugh of Ft. Myers, FL; step-grandchildren, Michael (MaryPat) Sares, Mark (Amy) Sares, Matt (Flo) Sares, and Tonia (Terry) Irmen; great-grandchildren, Zack and Nick Alspaugh, Josh, Nate, and Troy Watkins, and Hunter and Coki Alspaugh; 13 step-great-grandchildren, and daughter-in-law, Luanna (Andrew) Sares. She was preceded in the death by her husband, Berlyn and son, Jack. Visitation will be held at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH on Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 12 until 2 p.m. where funeral services will take place at 2. A graveside service will be held at Gettysburg Cemetery, Gettysburg, OH at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2012. Contributions may be made to the Sylvania Senior Center. To Margaret's family.....my sincere condolences....she was a true gem! I had the pleasure of meeting her through the senior center - part of our "bus bunch" - always a wonderful spirit and a joy. Then to see her at EVERY soccer game for Jan and John's boys - amazing woman even in the coldest of days and what a trooper she was!!! She was a great gal and I'm sure you all have very wonderful memories.....
