Alvin E. Sr.

Alvin E. Darrow, Sr. passed away on Thursday November 1st, 2012, in the Flower Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 13, 1925 in Petersburg Michigan to Benjamin and Bessie Darrow. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II as a medic and received many metals. He married the love of his life Rose M. (Abdo) on July 12, 1947, and enjoyed 65 wonderful years together. He bought a Mobile service station at Monroe and 18th Streets around 1950 and within a few years he owned four service stations. In 1961 he opened Darrow's Wheel Alignment and Brake Service which he operated for forty years until he retired in 2001. He was a prominent and successful businessman and was a member of the Lagrange St. Businessmen and the Toledo Exchange Club.

Al enjoyed boating with his family and friends and taking his family on Lake Erie to Put-In-Bay and Cedar Point. He was a member of Ottawa River Yacht Club for 47 years and served as commodore in 1978.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving family daughters, Cheri (Dave) Bonk, Sue (Dan) Omlor; sons, Ron (Rita) Darrow, Al Darrow Jr., Rob (Angela) Darrow and blessed with grandchildren Jason (Arin) Bonk, Mark Bonk, Dan (Suki) Omlor, Jennifer (Craig) Strayer, Ron (Candi) Darrow, Marchone (Joel) Sanchez, Stacey (Jay) Gerken, Jeremy (Tennille) Darrow and Tim Darrow, Samantha and Mason Darrow will all miss giving PAPA hugs and kisses; 18 great-grandchildren. He will also be dearly missed by his beloved dog Mattie. His parents, sister Alice Cox and brother Earl preceded him in death.

Al will be remembered by his beautiful blue eyes, his smile, and love and devotion to his family. His family wishes to extend special thanks to the physicians and caring nurses at the Flower Hospital ICU for the excellent care that he received.

Friends are invited to visit from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
