Joan M.

Joan M. Kourkouliotis, of Whitehouse, was called home to her heavenly father on January 4, 2013, at the age of 74. Joan was born August 11, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio to Claude and Margie (Darah) Gootee. She was very devoted to her family, a wonderful homemaker, who enjoyed having her family and friends for Sunday dinner and family gatherings. It was important for her to pass her Lebanese heritage through her delicious cooking and baking. She had a big heart, always giving and helping people and animals in need. She had a love for art, opera and trips to the beach.

In addition to her parents, Claude and Margie; Joan was preceded in death by her son, Dimitrios Kourkouliotis. She is survived by her brothers, Michael Gootee and Mark (Laura) Gootee, and her children, Norman (Kim) Briney, Sean Briney, Kathleen Briney-Heisler and Claudia (Tony) Gootee-Rankin. Also survived by many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews, and cousins.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Flower Hospital ICU for their dedication and excellent care and for her friends at High Point Commons, who looked out for her.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300), where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo.
