Frank Thompson, Jr.



Frank Nesbitt, age 80, died peacefully on January 5, 2013, after a long and complicated illness.

He is survived by his loving family, wife, Dorothy Drucker Nesbitt; his four children Frank/Nick (Eva Cermanova) T. Nesbitt III, Kate (Robert) Watts, Susan Nesbitt, and Amy (Robert Marshall) Nesbitt, and granddaughter, Emma Watts.

Born in Marion, Indiana on August 17, 1932, Frank was raised in Toledo, Ohio by his late parents Frank and Ruth (Calender) Nesbitt. He graduated from Ottawa Hills High School, and went on to earn a BS from the School of Speech at Northwestern University, followed by an MBA at Harvard Business School. He worked for twenty years with Foote, Cone, and Belding advertising agency in Chicago, followed by another two decades of executive leadership of public television at both KCET in Southern California and WTTW television in Chicago. He made additional contributions to the national dialogue on the arts by providing congressional testimony regarding Public Television and serving on National Endowment for the Arts review panels. He actively supported numerous non-profits in the areas of nature conservation, cancer treatment, and the stewardship of local public libraries. His passions included hunting, sailing, classic cars, and photography. He was preceded in death by his sister Katherine Nesbitt Reese.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Frank can be made in his name to the Kidney Foundation, the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society, the , or the Alliance for the Great Lakes at:
