Arnold H. "Joe"



Arnold H. "Joe" Janney, 85, of Lambertville, MI, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the Ebeid Hospice Residence.

Joe was born May 6, 1927, in Toledo, to parents J. Smith and Isma (Comstock) Janney. He was a 1945 graduate and Senior Class President of Whitmer High School, where he played football and basketball, and was eventually inducted into the Whitmer High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Joe was proud to have served with the United States Navy as a gunner on the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Hornet during W.W.II.

He owned and operated, along with his sons, Janney's Ace Hardware. Joe greeted customers with a smile and a kind word for more than 60 years, before retiring in 2007. After retirement Joe was elected to the National Ace Hardware Board of Directors, a position held from 1977 through 1985.

An active member of the community, Joe joined the Trilby Volunteer Fire Department while in high school and remained until the department was disbanded in 1963. During this time he served as both Lieutenant and President of the fire department.

Joe was the former President of the Trilby Chamber of Commerce, and a long time member of the Trilby Rotary Club. He was a 50 year member of the Sylvania Pyramid Lodge, and a member of the Scottish Rite, the Zenobia Shrine, and the

Jesters.

Joe enjoyed the out of doors, playing golf, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family at Black Lake, and his hunting camp in the U.P. He was an avid collector of antique tools and duck decoys.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary A. Janney; sons Douglas (Carol) and Timothy (Diana) Janney; grandchildren Todd (Carrie) and Jasen Bruning, Adrienne Janney, Nicole Willoughby, Nicholas (Whitney) Janney, and Alexi Janney, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Thursday January 24th from 3 - 9 PM. His life will be celebrated at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 2820 W. Alexis Rd, where Joe served at one time on the church council, Friday at 11 AM.

Joe's family would like to thank the staffs of The Toledo Hospital and Ebeid Hospice. Drs. Shaikh and Phinney; and Dr. Jeffery Jones, and Erin and Mona, and the entire staff of the James Cancer Center at The Ohio State University. Your loving care meant so much.
