REGAN

Robert Joseph

Robert Joseph Regan passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at UTMC surrounded and held by his loving family.

Bob was born in Toledo, OH on December 31, 1930, to William F. and Marjorie (Burnor) Regan. He was a proud graduate of St. Mary's Elementary School, where he mastered the tonette. His academic career continued at Central Catholic High School. He graduated from his beloved Central Catholic in 1948. Bob's college career was the beginning of one of his life-long loves...John Carroll University. Bob graduated in 1952 and there was never a prouder John Carroll graduate. Bob loved to continue to visit the campus and attend his reunions.

On May 14, 1960, Bob married the love of his life Arlene McCabe. He devoted his life to Arlene and together they built a home based on love, commitment to each other and their Catholic faith. The result of their love was 7 children, and 9 grandchildren all of whom adored their Dad, "Bobby" and Papa Irish.

Bob was a successful businessman with his career encompassing comptroller positions at Johns Manville, Prestolite and Teledyne. Most recently, until his retirement, Bob had been the Business Manager at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish for 14 years. He also served on the Boards of the Victory Center and Toledo Botanical Gardens.

Bob loved life and surrounded himself with everyone and everything that made him happy. His Catholic faith was unshakeable. He loved daily Mass, retreats at Manresa and deepening his love of Christ through the Corpus Christi lecture series. Bob also loved the teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola and truly lived the Jesuit code of being "a man for others."

Bob achieved Master Gardener status through the Ohio State University. He spent many hours at Toledo Botanical Gardens and the 577 Foundation. His gardens at home were a source of pride and achievement.

Bob was a man for all seasons. Spring was spent watching his gardens emerge and preparing his gardens and his soul for a new season of growth. Spring also meant dusting off the clubs so he would be ready for a great round of golf...anytime, anywhere.

Summers were full of children, grandchildren, and enjoying the pool at Alberti Country Club with a martini shaken, not stirred with an anchovy olive.

Fall for Bob meant God's most beautiful display of colors-colors he enjoyed on daily walks with his beloved dog, Riley, at Wildwood Metropark.

Bob loved winter and the many family gatherings celebrated during the holidays.

Bob was extremely focused on providing an excellent Catholic education for his children. He and Arlene were extremely proud to send their children to Gesu, Notre Dame Academy and St. Francis de Sales High School.

Bob had no acquaintances, only friends, and he had more friends than you could "shake a shillelagh" at. He always made certain that everyone he met felt his warmth. He was a constant life cheerleader for his wife, children and grandchildren.

Bob is survived by Arlene, his wife of 52 years. His children, Mary Beth (Steve) Alberti, Margaret (Meg) Regan, Maureen (Jeff) Glore, Jenny Regan, Thomas Regan, Colleen (Steve) Oliver and Patrick (Valerie) Regan. He will be forever missed by his grandchildren, Alex, Lauren and Jack Alberti, Kasidy and Jillian Glore, Nicholas Regan and Brady and Ryan Regan. Bob is also survived by his brother, Martin (Kate) Regan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William, and his granddaughter, Molly Regan.

Visitation for Bob will be Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home with prayers at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of the celebration of Bob's life at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr St., on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be immediately following the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery.
