Eugene "Quacky"



Eugene Curtis "Quacky", 78, of Toledo, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 14, 2013. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Monclova Road Baptist Church, in Monclova, Ohio at 10:00 a.m.

Eugene was born to the late Earl Wilbur and Katherine Curtis of Maumee, Ohio, where he attended Maumee High School and received a basketball scholarship to BGSU.

Eugene was married to LaVerne (Bail) Curtis his loving wife of 58 years.

Eugene, better known as "Quacky the Duck Clown" was a 6'9" tall professional clown who traveled extensively throughout the United States and parts of Canada entertaining the young and young at heart for 50 years. "Quacky's" venues included state and county fairs, amusement parks, motor and horse racing events, festivals, grand openings, etc., where he repeatedly drew record-breaking crowds to his grandstand magic shows and midway strolling events. He was a member of several showmen associations including the Showmen's League of America-Saint Louis Chapter, the World Clown Association and The International Brotherhood of Magicians. "Quacky" will be remembered for being an extremely tall and funny clown, his ability to talk like a duck, along with his incredible animal impersonations and balloon sculpting abilities.

Eugene's leisure time was spent working in his 1/2 acre garden that was filled with various fruit trees, fruit and vegetable plants, and a grape orchard. He was also an avid beekeeper and a member of the Maumee Valley Beekeepers Association for many years.

Eugene is survived by his wife, LaVerne, and four children, Rebecca Curtis of Tuscaloosa, AL, Dorothy Partin-Cooch of Orlando, FL, Sharon Curtis of Peachtree City, GA, and Christopher E. Curtis of Temperance, MI. Eugene is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and his four siblings, brothers, Thomas Curtis of Dover, FL, John Curtis of Catawba Island, OH, sisters, Kathleen Brandes of Monclova, OH, Carol Ann Neiman of Toledo, OH,

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in memory of Eugene Curtis, to the "UTMC Mundt Fund" 3000 Arlington Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43614 Mail Stop 1018. This fund serves as research into the treatment of heart failure in patients.

I have known "Quacky the Clown" since the late 60´s and last time at The Fulton Illinois County fair in the late 90´s. He always impressed kindness and gentleness toward the young.
